Continuo
“Even the most skilful gardener can find immense pleasure in wild flowers” ... Somewhere in a tiny bookstore in Boston there is an old dusty encyclopedia of folk music with this quote on the first page. It describes so beautifully what is so fantastic about folk music: it is a force of nature! ‘Continuo’ is the second album from the Danish string-duo Dybfølt consisting of Kirstine Elise Pedersen on cello and Mathæus Bech on double bass. Though they both have a classical background, they initially met playing nordic folk music, which has been the main focus of this album. All but one of the tracks are original, with the odd one out being a baroque piece by the french composer Marin Marais. The title ‘Continuo’ stems from the baroque music term basso continuo, which is a form of unspecified accompaniment-voice that can be played and improvised over by various instruments – often the lowest instruments, which seemed fitting to our modus operandi. It also alludes quite nicely to the fact that this is our second album and a continuation of our musical journey together.
